In the town
of Hidalgo you can find several restaurants where you can sample
the best of Mexican cuisine. Please refer to map
for details. Generally most restaurant food is safe to eat, but
if you have a sensitive tummy try to avoid raw vegetables such as
salad etc. The nearest and most convenient restaurant is Checo's,
which is open most evenings during the climbing season. It's located
at the end of the RCG driveway where it meets the paved road. In
town, there is a delicious seafood restaurant "Los Delfines"
which is famous for it's seafood soup (sopa de mariscos). There
is also a pizza parlor "Luigi's Pizza" and Louis' famous
taco stand open on busy weekend evenings and nights. Across from
the Pemex Gas Station there is "La Estacion", great for
quick cheap tacos. For the more adventurous, or those with a vehicle
try "El Herradero" about 1.5 kms out of town toward Monterrey.
This restaurant is known for it's grilled meat (carne asada) and
baked cheese (queso flameado). There are also many other restaurants
scattered throughout town. Be adventurous if you dare, and try out
some of the local specialities!
