Food

The local produce is fresh, delicious and CHEAP! You can eat safely in most restaurants without the fear of diarrhea. Make sure you try fresh flour and corn tortillas, frijoles, guacamole, nopalito, enchiladas, tamales, sweet breads and sweets like homemade ice cream, dulce de leche, and local honey. An abundance of vegetables and fruits are available at the markets and at the various grocery stores. For the carnivores, the state of Neuvo Leon specializes in baby goat meat, dried meat as well as fresh beef and chicken meat. Many people enjoy eating "carne asada", grilled meat on a barbecue. There are local "Carnicerias" where you can buy meat and fresh fish on fridays.

Local restaurants are also fairly cheap and delicious. Check out local restaurants like Checos, El Herradero and Delfines!

There are times however when you might feel a craving for some food from back home and you just can't find it locally. Consider bringing down Power Bars or energy bars of your choice, soy/rice milk, film, batteries, coffee, peanut butter (because it is really expensive down here), chocolate bars, sweets, olive oil, curry powder, soy sauce, other spices and unusual products.
